PEAKING LIGHTS

this is an awesome video of aaron coyes and indra dunis showing their circut bended sound machines! aaron and i went to the same film school in california and he was a huge, huge influence on me. before i left for baltimore he burned me a mountain of cd-rs that included awesome bands like silver apples, la dusseldorf, can, faust, goblin and a bunch of great psychedelic albums that shaped me musically.

i remember him showing me some of his 16 band equalizers turned into tone generators and it blew my mind. an incredibly kind and positive man he is. :)

Titus Andronicus: The Monitor

i happened to paroozle around pitchfork and i happened to find the documentary for titus' 2nd album The Monitor. i was one of their guest guitarist for their song the battle of hampton roads. they came to my house with their sound engineer kevin mcmahon. nolen from double dagger came and also andy and jenn from wye oak, it was so much fun. we had a pizza party and i was getting pretty drunk recording those tracks for them since they bought a case of a natty boh for the recording session.

good times, good times.

IN C

last friday i had the pleasure to be a part of the In C ensemble at soft house. It was a wonderful experience, i felt a surge of warmth and closing my eyes felt so many sounds going through me.

thank you soft house!!

Rapdragons at mobtown studios

Rapdragons asked me a few days ago if i wanted to play a song with them last night at Mobtown studios. It was super fun! They sampled Ponytail's 'Late for School' from Ice Cream Spiritual and called it 'Early for Work' :D

The space itself was really cute, a small space with a giraffe patterned rug for the bands to play on.

Mobtown is run by Matt and Emily Leffler Schulman they are married and they are gonna go on a vacation to Costa Rica soon, they are psyched about that!

Sam from Future Isalands was there too and he rapped with them which was really crazy to see, that guy is verbally talented, seriously. my mouth is like a crippled scarecrow, I can't rap for crap!

to listen to the recordings go here

my favorite song they did that night was bigwams, they have such fresh yet simple beats with old school rapping like de la soul, it was awesome!

Square defining a Circle, Infinite Love

i just finished recording and i'm excited yet i don't know what to do as of yet. i'm definitely thinking about asking labels to see if they are interested yet this project has gotten a lot more involved than i thought it was going to be. it started out as a 20 minute piece now its about 40 and when i thought i was done, i came up with a new idea where the piece has two versions each version beginning the same and in the middle splitting off in a different direction then coming back at the end.

my friend Andy Shenker and i have been working on the video too so its getting ambitious! we want the images to go together with both version of the record. hoping that this experiment's different sounds and songs can re-contextualize the imagery of the video. i'm really curious on how its going to change.

this is the rough idea for the cover
